River sat silently, staring sadly at the blonde who had joined them. Why hadn’t the Doctor told Rose he was married? Did he still have feelings for her? She hoped not, she didn’t think she could stand the Doctor loving someone else the way he loved her.

River wanted to say something, but what?  She couldn’t think of anything. Well, she could, but she didn’t want to make it even more awkward, she could already feel the tension in the air.

River smiled at Amy, “Yeah,” she agreed, it was nice, having a picnic with her family. She just hoped they could have a lovely, disaster-free time. She knew the Doctor was worried about his name getting chosen. After all, if he was chosen, she knew the Doctor wouldn’t kill anyone in the arena and would simply accept his death.

If this was the Doctor’s last chance to have a good time with his family then they would make it an amazing one.

“Right, chips” River sighed as she went to fetch them. She knew who the Doctor associated chips with, and it made her jealous. Jealous of the blonde companion the Doctor had once loved. Jealous of the first person who had traveled with him after the Time War. Jealous of Rose Tyler.

She returned with the chips and handed them to the Doctor, “Here you go sweetie” she said as he took them. “And I was just wondering, where are we going to have our picnic?”she asked no one in particular, curious as to where they could have a nice, peaceful picnic on a day like this.
